PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval) Guide: Avoid Pesticide Residue Failures

28 May 2026By FarmTrace Editorial

Calculate safe harvest dates after spraying. Understand PHI for common agrochemicals used in East Africa floriculture and block risky harvests automatically.

PHI is the minimum waiting period between the last pesticide application and harvest. Harvesting inside PHI is one of the fastest paths to MRL failures, buyer rejections, and audit non-conformities.

Common PHI examples (verify label for your product)

  • Imidacloprid (aphids): often 14+ days on roses
  • Lambda-cyhalothrin (thrips): often 7+ days
  • Difenoconazole (powdery mildew): often 21+ days

How FarmTrace enforces PHI

Supervisors log spray events with product and section. FarmTrace calculates earliest_safe_harvest_date and blocks harvest entry server-side when a section is inside PHI. The harvest form shows a live warning before submission.
